Snewpit was founded on the belief that everyone deserves instant access to the news that impacts and affects them. There was a need for individuals to have access to a platform that delivers relevant and personalised news that directly relates to them. After struggling to find information about a local traffic incident which caused major disruptions, Snewpit’s founder, Charlie made it his mission to find a better way of helping everyday people to easily access and share relevant news with those around them.
With the hard work of our team, Snewpit was reimagined as a mobile app from an existing web platform. The team was focused on developing an application that puts authenticity, accessibility and relevance in the hands of the user. After the Covid-19 pandemic broke, Snewpit received outstanding support from local communities with over 30,000 concurrent users within an hour.
App Boxer procured this project from another company who went into administration. While we were able to rescue the backend of the app, it required a complete front end UI overhaul. We also expanded the scope to build a fully functioning website from scratch. We worked directly with the founder to reignite the project and together build the platforms he had imagined. We now have an ongoing relationship with Snewpit spanning the last 3 years.
When Snewpit approached App Boxer, they had an existing brand identity. Our team built upon the bright and vibrant multi-coloured palette throughout the website, creating a dynamic experience for the user. To enhance the UX, colour coded features and icons were incorporated throughout the application, accompanied by animations and gifs.
This custom built website was designed with the same functionality and brand identity as the app. It was important to provide users with the option to access and engage with news on a platform that best suits their needs at the time. The site requires the user to create an account and login to be able to create, view and rate relevant news to them.
As a rescue project, App Boxer were required to reassess the quality of the back end code and the location-based news system. The design team were responsible for exploring and improving the functionality of the UX and building a React Native App with a Python backend hosted on AWS.
As the Snewpit platform grows and executes its mission, (to be the world’s largest and most trusted news sharing platform, with news reported by the people, for the people) we are proud to build, develop, and learn with the Founder. We value our ongoing relationship and are fortunate to continue supporting a project that adds so much meaning to people’s lives.
